Google vs Bing – no contest really and Yahoo is well….hmm

My blog gets quite a lot of visitors everyone month so I decided to look at where everyone comes from. If my blog is representative then Google should be very pleased and Microsoft (Bing) more than a little annoyed. Yahoo should probably just give up now.

The search engine stats are like this:

  • Google: 96%+
  • Bing :1.6%
  • Yahoo: not listed in one system and around 0.07% in another
  • The others are all far smaller and register only a few hits.

I am sure this is not representative of the entire planet, but even if the two “smaller” players increase their share by a few percent it still makes almost no difference. While I am a fan of the simplicity and quality of Google services it’s clear that this is not healthy for the market place. Also given the vast amounts of data that Google has on it’s users it should be clear that this is one giant (potentially scary) corporate monster. The question is how can the others fight back? If at all…
