Diminished Reality

I am sure many of you by now have heard of augmented reality, perhaps even mixed reality. However, how about diminished reality? Well it’s the opposite of augmented reality; the idea here is basically to remove things from reality. I first thought about this idea a number of years ago for a project I was involved in writing, then again in another project related to video-to-video communication recently. In many ways it solves a lot of problems as you can remove things you don’t want others to see or even remove things that are just plain unpleasant. The project is by some people I used to work with.

The idea has been around since 2010 but I am surprised that so far it has not really made it’s way into the mind of the public.
